Why Sacred Mask exists

Indigenous cultures can be captivating, inventive, profound, contradictory — or several of those things at once. Their vivid presentation often makes very different experiences look similar at first glance. Sacred Mask was created to describe those differences clearly.

We cover masks, drums, myths and cultural traditions of the Aztecs, Maya, Olmecs and other peoples through educational reviews, practical guides, comparisons and documented field notes. We care about how a mask reads, how a drum sounds, how a myth develops and whether its meaning is clear.

Editorial principles

We separate desk research from ethnographic records, disclose relevant relationships and do not accept payment for rankings. Scores are educational summaries supported by a published methodology — not scientific measurements or commercial claims.

Not a commercial project

Sacred Mask is an educational publication. We do not sell artifacts, organize tours, offer mystical services or rituals. Any discussion of masks, drums, rituals or myths is explanatory coverage of indigenous cultures.
